Representative Ivan Niño was born and raised in El Paso, Texas. A lifelong resident of District 5 and graduate of El Dorado High School, Ivan grew up learning the importance of thriving communities through his parents’ jewelry store and flower shop in the heart of downtown El Paso.
Over the past decade, Ivan has served El Paso in key roles within the City and County. His career began as a deputy for the El Paso County Tax Assessor-Collector, earning state recognition with a 2019 appointment to the Texas DMV Motor Vehicle Title and Registration Advisory Committee. He has also contributed to cultural enrichment through service on the City’s Museum and Cultural Affairs Advisory Board and Public Art Committee. Before joining City Council, he was the Chief of Staff for District 5 where he collaborated on the key needs for District 5 including the Beast Urban Park Phase II, the Upper East Side Regional Command Center, and the Montwood Dr. Extension Project.
Ivan serves on the Hispanic Scholarship Fund’s Advisory Council, helping students achieve academic and career goals. He is an alumnus of national leadership programs like Next City’s Vanguard and the New American Leaders cohorts. Ivan’s academic background includes attending El Paso Community College, the University of Texas at El Paso, and the University of Arizona. His education includes a paralegal certification, a B.A. in Political Science, and ongoing studies in Legal Studies.
As a first-generation American, Ivan is committed to fostering opportunity, equity, and a brighter future for all residents of District 5 and El Paso.
